Our History
The Institute of Islamic Economics and Finance (IIEF) was initially founded in September 2013 as Interest Free Zone (IFZ with the sole mandate to provide consulting services in Islamic Banking and Finance. Since then, the IFZ has conducted several trainings in this field both locally and internationally. However, given the demand to filling the capacity gap in Islamic Banking and Finance to be based on the noble principles of Islam, the IFZ was transformed into a fully-fledged Institute in July 2020 as a learning solution provider.

To be a premier leading institute of knowledge center for Islamic Economics, Banking, and Finance in The Gambia and Africa at large in other to promote sustainable socioeconomic growth through ethical finance principles.
Our Mission
To deliver cutting edge research, capacity building, learning, business advisory services in the area of Islamic Economics, Banking, and Finance, Social Finance, Financial Inclusion, Fintech among others in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
Our Objective
The primary objective of the institution is to fill the gap in the Islamic Finance industry especially Islamic Banking, Islamic Takaful, Islamic Microfinance, Islamic Economics, Interest Free Housing for low-income earners and the MSME sector. Complemented with profit generation, and building a successful institution that will be sustainable in the long-term with a challenging and manageable growth rate. Our unique identity is the ability to transform minds by creating a learning platform for new generation of academic students, researchers, scholars, business managers, financiers, bankers and economists, to enable them effectively handle the challenges faced by businesses in executing financial contracts according to the principles of Islam. IIEF will work to attaining these goals by conveying the much-needed knowledge and training using different modes of learning and tools. This will help in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through realistic financial inclusion.
