Dr. Mbye Kebba Kah: is the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of Al-Hikmah University (a Faculty for Girl’s Education) established by the Gambia Islamic Union. He is also a Senior Lecturer at Al-Ihsaan Islamic University in Banjulingding, The Gambia. He holds PhD (honors) in Islamic Law in 2000 from the Islamic University of al-Madinah. He also completed his Master of Arts (M.A.) (honors) in Islamic Jurisprudence in 1995 and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Islamic Law & Arabic Studies with distinction in 1991 at the same University. Having returned to The Gambia in 2001, Dr. Kah joined the University of The Gambia (UTG) as a Lecturer. He was keen to acquire knowledge and was devoted to its correct transmission. He lectured several courses in the Islamic Studies & Arabic Language Unit at UTG. He also offered lectures in Wolof focusing on Islamic books such as Ar-Resaala, Sahihul Muslim and other books relating to Fiqh (Jurisprudence).

In 2002, Dr. Kah started and headed an Islamic Non-for-profit foundation (Al-Eamar Charitable Foundation) in The Gambia. The foundation aims to provide social necessities to the poor, needy and orphans. Some of the services include sponsorship of orphans, digging of wells and boreholes, construction of mosques, distribution of food items as well as offering Iftar (Fast breaking goods and services) to mosques during Ramadan. In 2003, He was appointed as an Imam at the State House Mosque in Banjul. In 2008, he was appointed as Secretary-General of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), a legal body that oversees the activities of Islamic bodies in The Gambia. He was also appointed by the Government of The Gambia as the Chairman of the then Gambia Hajj Commission (now Office of Pilgrims Affairs in The Gambia).

Dr. Kah was appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Union of African Scholars in 2010, a continental Islamic body which comprises globally renowned Islamic Scholars in Africa such as: Dr. Mohammad Ahmad LO of Senegal, Dr. Sa’eed Sillah of Mali, Sheikh Musa Menk of Zimbabwe, Dr. Sa’eed Burhan of Comoros Island, Dr. Ibrahim Jalloh of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ibrahim Jalo of Nigeria, Dr. Mohammad Bashir of Ghana and so on.

Dr. Kah was chosen in 2016 by His Majesty King Muhammad VI of Morocco as a board member of the Union of Scholars in Africa, founded by the King of Morocco. He attended many International and National Conferences and has been involved in curriculum designing of the Arabic and Islamic schools in The Gambia since the last part of the 1970s. He is also widely known for his participations in Da’wah both The Gambia and Abroad.
