Dr. Alieu Gibba is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics and Finance, School of Business and Public Administration, University of The Gambia (UTG). He also served as Head of Department at the Department of Economics and Finance, UTG and as President & CEO of The University of The Gambia Faculty and Staff Association (UTGFSA) between 2019 to 2023. Business, Agricultural and Energy Economist by profession, Dr. Gibba has more than eleven years of research, teaching, and consultancy experience in the field of Economics, Trade & Export Development, and Agribusiness. In September 2022, he was awarded an international fellowship by COMSTECH Consortium to undergo six-month intensive postdoctoral research on Energy Economics and Policy at The Government College University, Pakistan. His research concentration was on Energy Economics for Sustainable Growth.
In 2017, he received his doctoral degree (PhD) in Management and Business Administration Sciences (International Economic Relations) from Szent Istvan University, Hungary. He holds a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from National Taiwan University, Taiwan, and a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics from the University of The Gambia. Dr. Gibba conducted several trainings and consultancies locally and internationally, this includes adjunct lecturing at the American International University (AIU) West Africa, The Gambia; Wekerle Business School (WBS), Budapest, Hungary; and International College of Business & Human Resource Development (ICOBAHRD), Old Jeshwang, The Gambia.
Dr. Gibba was the Lead Consultant & Project Director for National Agricultural Land and Water Management Development (Nema) Project. The project was an impact assessment project jointly funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Islamic Development Bank, and The Gambia Government. He also served as The National Evaluator for the Evaluation of The World Food Program (WFP’s) Country Strategic Plan in The Gambia (2019-2021).
