Abdou O Camara holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Islamic Banking and Finance from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak and a Master’s degree in Islamic Finance from the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), one of the world’s most prestigious institutions for Islamic finance education.
Abdou’s career in Islamic finance began at the Arab Gambian Islamic Bank (AGIB), where he worked across customer service and credit departments, leveraging his expertise in Islamic finance to enhance client relations and credit services. His in-depth knowledge of Sharia-compliant financial principles helped him contribute significantly to the operations of AGIB, the only Islamic bank in The Gambia.
In 2022, Abdou joined Yonna Islamic Microfinance, where he initially served as Customer Service and Marketing Manager. His leadership and strategic insights soon led him to the role of Acting Head of Business Development, overseeing the institution’s growth initiatives and contributing to the expansion of its client base and service portfolio.
In addition to his practical experience, Abdou has also made academic contributions. From 2023 to 2024, he served as an adjunct lecturer at the University of The Gambia, where he taught Risk Management in Islamic Financial Institutions, imparting his expertise to the next generation of finance professionals.
Currently, Abdou works as a Consultant at IFAAS (Islamic Finance Advisory and Assurance Services), a leading consultancy firm headquartered in England. His role includes coordinating key projects, including the Digital Postal Financial Services (DPFS) initiative, where he applies his knowledge of Islamic finance and digital transformation to innovative financial services
